Dream What You Want Your Life To Be Like

Author: Anne Milne

Unless you're dead from the neck up you will be just like everyone else and have dreamt of being somebody special, somebody big. We've all fantasised about being the person who hits the 'winning run' or dreamed of being the 'queen of the ball'. And how often have you dreamt about being rich, successful, happy etc?

A lot of the time our dreams are 'big dreams' you know the type - you know where we've made our millions and we are cruising around in our big yacht. In these dreams we have great aspirations. Unfortunately, for most people our dreams remain just that - dreams. And our aspirations recede in the dark corners of our minds. Sure we might pull them back to the front from time to time but they soon slip away again.

The sad fact is, instead of turning our dreams in to real exciting adventures, instead of moving towards becoming the person in our dreams we get caught up in the treadmill of every day life doing what we have to in order to get by!

But you know what? For some people things are so different. For some life is so much better. These are the people that learnt to set their sights high. These people don't think of things as being impossible or that they can't do something. These people are thinking of what they are going to do to get where they want to be.

Just think about this - if everyone thought things were impossible then we would probably still be sat in caves huddle round a fire. Instead we are sat comfortable in our homes with heating, lighting, TV's, stereos, etc.

Did you know that scientists were baffled when they took a look at the humble bumblebee? Theoretically, it was impossible for the bumblebee to fly. Fortunately for the bumblebee no one told it that it couldn't fly so, fly it does.

Self doubt and self limiting assumptions are the high walls surrounding us that limit our ability to achieve what we want. The people who succeed find ways to get over these walls but not in one big jump! Set your goals high but work towards them in achievable steps and you suddenly find your self achieving your dreams. Try to do it in one big jump and you end up beaten, your dreams in tatters.

Try this - on some paper make 3 columns and title them 'Things I Can Do', 'Things I Might Be Able To Do' and 'Things That Are Impossible For Me'. Now under each of these headings write down some goals you have.

Every day try to accomplish the goals that are in the column 'Things I Can Do' and cross them off when you can do them. Once you have crossed off all the goals in this first column start on the second column but this time as you achieve each goal and cross it off bring one of the goals from the last in to the middle column.

As you make progress, you will find that the goals you once thought were impossible become easier to accomplish. The impossible begins to seem possible after all it just takes a little longer to achieve!

What you are doing here is not putting limits on your imagination. You aim high then start working towards that ultimate goal little by little. The only thing to remember is don't set a goal that is truly unrealistic.

Those who just dream towards a goal without working hard end up disappointed and disillusioned.

Once over if you told someone men would walk on the moon, they would have laugh at you maybe even had you locked up! If you had told them that you could send mail to the other side of the world in a few seconds, they would say you were out of your mind. Yet, thanks to the sheer desire and perseverance of many people, these impossible dreams are now realities.

Thomas Edison once said that genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. For one to accomplish his or her dreams, there has to be had work and discipline. But take note that that 1% has to be a think-big dream, and not some easily accomplished one. As the saying goes "No Pain, No Gain"

So dust off your dreams. Don't get trapped by walls of self limitation. Think big and work hard to make your dreams come true. You may not get everything from your dream but you will have more than when you started and what once seemed impossible will no longer seem that way.
