The Neighbors From a Bad Movie

Author: A Renee Grover

I am from the country. I am not a city girl. I was raised on deer, squirrel and rabbit. I also was raised to take care of my own.

I moved here to Rutherford County so that my children could have a good education and so they could learn English as their first language. We moved into a nice little burb in Walter Hill where we have made friends slowly but surely.

The people behind us became bitter as we were happy and did not drink and they were not and did. They threatened us with the law concerning our children's pet chickens and ducks so I disposed of them the country way.

They sold their house and moved a year later right after telling me they were sorry about the chickens and ducks.

Now today, I found out our house was being watched all day by animal control because our new neighbors called them to complain about our dog, our cat, and several other cats in the neighborhood.

I was and am offended by this new neighbor.

I have always taken very good care of my animals. I have also tried to be fair to my neighbors who let their dogs run. I have not called animal control other than one time when a strange dog who looked like a killer was in my yard and I have children though we did fence our yard in which we had three kennels, one for the dog, one for the rabbit and then one where we used to have the chickens plus the garden and room for the kids playhouse.

I have been told my new neighbor is retired from the police department in Shelbyville. I don't know and really don't care. He told me he was a writer. That was when they first moved in. I even told him about the ducks which he said sounded like a good story for reader digest

I called and told him I was going to put my animals down when I got home .I also told him they should have of bought a house down the street where there were not any dogs and break-ins were regular. He told me I was deranged and needed help. I love it when retired policemen become doctors. I also told him it was just a matter of chicken and ducks and I hung up.

He asked one of the neighbors kids if I drank or if we drank as a family as I think he was really surprised when he was told we did not. We smoke cigarettes and drink coffee and coke though my doctor has told me to quit smoking and start drinking. For real!

I was raised to respect people and treat them as I want to be treated. I have done nothing to this man and his wife but try to be nice. I was excited to have new neighbors. Now I feel like I am in one of those really bad movies where the neighbors just keep getting worse.

I guess I should have known when he mowed his yard all winter long.

Did I tell you I have to live in this house for the rest of my life?
