Blood Presure, High or Low, You Need to Know This

Author: Tyson J Stevenson

Blood is circulated through the arteries and veins to all the parts of our body. The pressure by which the blood pushes against the arteries' walls is known as the "blood pressure". Whenever the heart beats it pumps blood into the arteries.

The heart beats 60 to 70 times per minute at rest condition.

As the heart beats while pumping the blood, the pressure of the blood rises and this is known as "systolic pressure". The pressure of the blood falls between the heart beats when the heart is at rest condition and this is known as "diastolic pressure". Both the systolic pressure and diastolic pressure are important. They are symbolized as (systolic pressure/diastolic pressure) mmHg, such as 110/70 mmHg. The pressure of blood is measured in millimeters of mercury (mm Hg)

It'll vary during the whole day. When we sleep it stays lowest. But the pressure rises as we get nervous, excited, or active. When one or both the systolic-pressure and the diastolic-pressure of somebody rise above the normal we say that he has high blood pressure. This can cause coronary heart disease which may result in heart attacks, strokes, heart failure and bleeding from several parts of our body. It can even damage one's kidney.

High blood pressure can be seen in children as well as in adults. But mainly it is common for people over the age of 35.

Those who have diabetes mellitus, gout or some other disease they have the chances of having higher blood pressure.

Bloods pressure is generally categorized into optimal, normal, high normal and excessive high or hypertensive.

High blood pressure is also known as hypertension. There are no certain symptoms of hypertension. But treatment is required whenever the pressure rises above the normal. High systolic blood pressure is completely responsible for various heart complications such as heart attack, stroke and heart failure mainly for aged people. The systolic pressure can rise even when the diastolic pressure is normal. This condition is known as isolated systolic hypertension. It is easy to predict with high diastolic pressure that it will cause diseases like heart attack and stroke in youths and adults. Above 90% ofall attacks are of primary hypertension which is also known as essential or idiopathic hypertension.

About 5% of high blood pressure comprises of secondary hypertension. Pregnancy Induced Hypertension generally occurs during pregnancy.

Millions and millions of people over the world are affected by this High blood pressure. People, those who are heavy drinkers and women who used to take birth control pills have a huge chance for falling victom of rising blood pressure.

It may also be heredity. Nowadays there are also a variety of medical accessories available for the diagnosis and monitoring of blood pressure.

Patients are generally treated with rest and often with drug therapy, as soon as they are diagnosed with high blood pressure.
