A New Transportation Law Is Just One Signature Away

Author: Jay Stevens

The new transportation bill is actually just one signature away and it is currently on top of the US president's desk. If George Bush decides to make this bill into a law, the buying public would be able to know just how well, or how bad, vehicles have done in crash tests. This new bill is actually known and called as "Stars on Cars ?. And yes, it costs $286.5 billion.

The main thing that would make this bill become a big deal for most people would be that as part of this is the idea of requiring car dealers to put crash test ratings and scores on the vehicles' windows. Just imagine going to a car dealer and you would actually be able to go through rows of vehicles on each window, you would actually see just how much protection and safety these vehicles could provide you in case of crashes.

This bill is actually the brainchild of Mike DeWine of Ohio who is a Republican Senator. According to this senator, "Vital safety information needs to be accessible to the consumer when they need it most, at the dealership when purchasing decisions are made. ? This is primarily because the public is able to know about the safety ratings only through some research that they would have to do through the Internet. Otherwise, the public would not know the ratings of the vehicles when it comes to crash tests.

Aside from putting crash test ratings on vehicles' windows, other provisions on vehicle safety include new rules on roof strength. There also is a provision on the replacement of outdated standards for some come even as early as the 1970s. There would be new studies done on rollovers so as to be able to release results come 2009 on how to reduce rollover fatalities.
